Spring into your next break at the Beacon Hotel

We’re already at the end of February, and the wild winter weather will be behind us before we know it! We all love swapping our heavy raincoats for lightweight jackets and losing the wooly scarves in favour of sunglasses to take the glare off the crisp spring mornings. The days are starting to feel longer, and the urge to recharge with vitamin D will soon mean that we have extra energy to throw into new adventures!

The Cornish landscape is perfect at any time of year, but springtime is particularly special. With more sunshine – and less rain – than the winter months, but less tourists than the summer season, you can explore Cornwall at your own pace and enjoy it at your leisure.

Whether spring for you conjures up images of new baby lambs, or the supermarket shelves packed full of Easter chocolate, Cornwall has a springtime adventure to suit all personalities, all ages and all interests. Find yourself in the list below and discover your perfect spring day out. Or if you’re like us and you want to experience it all, come and stay at the Beacon Hotel and take the time to work your way through our suggestions.

The Foodie

For those who live to eat rather than eat to live, Cornwall is home to local delicacies that are sure to tantalise your tastebuds.

Famed for our fresh fish and catch of the day, come and enjoy an evening of seafood at one of our fantastic local restaurants. Spring nights are perfect for enjoying a glass of dry white overlooking our sandy beaches!

If you’re more traditional in your approach to food, you won’t want to visit Cornwall without trying a traditional Cornish pasty. Cornish pasty week runs from Sunday 23rd of February until Saturday the 29th and culminates in the annual World Pasty Championships at the Eden Project! If you didn’t manage to make the event this year, put it in your calendar for 2021 and console yourself by biting into a piping hot pasty of your own.

The Animal Lover

Anyone with a dog will tell you that their pets are as much a part of the family as their children. You wouldn’t leave your children home alone, so why would you leave your pets? Bring your dogs with you (we’re a dog-friendly hotel) to enjoy our fantastic beaches and give them the freedom to roam across the sand. Most Cornish beaches operate a no dog policy during the summer months, so now is the perfect time for them to let off some steam while you enjoy the views.

If you’re very lucky, spring is also the perfect time to spot some seal pups. Mutton Cove, close to Godrevy, is your best bet for seeing these gorgeous creatures, although dolphins, porpoises and grey seals are also often spied on the coast.

It’s not only marine mammals that delight in the warming weather. Birds like the cuckoo, as well as butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies can also be spotted further inland.

The Nature Dweller

For those of us who simply love to be outside, admiring the wonders of nature, there’s nothing quite as spectacular as the Cornish countryside in spring. Flowers are blooming, colours are spreading and you’ll be able to see an abundance of plants in their natural habitats if you take a coastal drive and follow the sea.

If you’re someone who appreciates the time, attention to detail and creativity that goes into flower arrangements and garden landscaping, be sure to visit the Falmouth Spring Festival and Cornwall Spring Flower Show. The focus for the 2020 Cornwall Garden Society Spring Flower Show is protecting and enhancing the natural environment.

Spring also welcomes swaths of bluebells carpeting the ground – a particularly spectacular time for a photoshoot!

The Performer

Spring heralds the new season of outdoor theatre, and the air will be alive with sonnets and serenades from across the years. So grab a picnic and immerse yourself in a dramatic tale at one of our fantastic venues.

See what’s on at The Minack, Miracle Theatre or Penlee Park Open Air Theatre to name just a few.

If none of the performances take your fancy, enjoy a tour of these venues and take the place of the protagonist in your own spring fairytale.

Whoever you are, and whatever you love to do, we know you’ll love Cornwall in the spring. Get in touch with us now to secure your mini break or night away, and we’ll make you feel at home from the moment you arrive.

Why not take advantage of our spring offers with stays from £100 per night during February & March? Find out more about our current offers here and discover what’s on in Cornwall over the next few months.
