Hotel Annual Newsletter

The Beacon New Year Newsletter

Well what a rollercoaster of a year 2021 was. May we first hope that you kept safe and well during this challenging year for everyone. As I draft this newsletter we are again facing daily challenges with the hope that 2022 will be a more stabilising year for all.

As Christmas and New Year drew to a close and we said goodbye to the guests who enjoyed our Festive Break on the 24th to 27th December, we finally managed to move into our own family lodge (built in our grounds). We thought that for those people who do not receive our regular email news letters that we would provide you with a quick update on the things going on at the ‘Beacon’.

Having spent the beginning of 2021 in a national lockdown We took full advantage of our glorious surroundings and did lots of work in the hotel grounds and got out walking and exercising on the costal paths, enabling us to catalogue a number of our favourite walks and add them to our website.

Work also continued in updating and redecorating a number of areas of the hotel, and giving the outside of the hotel a fresh lick of paint.

We were able to open our doors again to the hotel on the 17th May 2021, having prepared the hotel to ensure all our guests felt COVID safe with the training of staff, new procedures, and screens etc.

Our feet then didn’t touch the ground for the next 6 months as many guests came to Cornwall for a staycation and thoroughly enjoyed the facilities and hospitality at the Beacon. It was lovely to see many returning guests, together with new guests who due to the foreign travel concerns were revisiting Cornwall for the first time in many years, often bringing family with them that have never been.

Cornwall is as popular as ever, with walks on the coastal footpaths, the moors at Bodmin, beautiful beaches and sheltered coves it is all here. The iconic landmarks, such as The Eden Project, St Michaels Mount, Tate St. Ives, The Minack Theatre and Cape Cornwall, are also well loved by our guests, whilst the traditional favourites such as the numerous Cornish gardens and National Trust properties, provide something for many.

Within the hotel, we have hopefully continued to look after our guests and have received lovely reviews with TripAdvisor ranking us as the #1 hotel in St Agnes and #9 in the whole of Cornwall (out of 230).

Not sitting on our laurels we are now looking forward to 2022. A number of the bedrooms will be getting the full works, with a paint job and new carpets, whilst the entrance hall and ground floor bedrooms are having new flooring together with a number of the upstairs ensuites.

We are also planning on offering a new 1 bedroom apartment (which can sleep up to 4 people) on a self-catering or B & B basis from April onwards, as we convert our old downstairs living accommodation, so look out for updated news and availability on this!!

As I am sure you are all aware 2021 was a challenging environment for staff, with Cornwall being so busy, COVID regulations and self-isolating. At the Beacon we are a small close knit team, and guest satisfaction and staff welfare has always been at the forefront of our operation.

With this in mind we know a number of our guests come to stay with us to enjoy our lovely restaurant and locally sourced food of an evening, however to ensure we can continue to maintain this offering our restaurant will now only be open Tuesday – Saturday evenings during 2022 (closed Sunday & Monday evenings). Breakfasts will obviously be served 7 days a week.

Bookings for the hotel will now only be taken on a B & B basis with the restaurant on the days it is open offering an A La-Carte style evening menu with daily specials. Reservations for the restaurant can be made on the day or 24 hours in advance – Please note there will always be space in the evening for residents and St Agnes has a wealth of lovely restaurants to also try – Check out our website for a list of these.

In terms of next year, we are opening again on Monday 7th March and we are looking forward to welcoming guests who are looking to stay with us again in 2022.

For those of you that fancy an early break away in Spring we have a special ‘Spring Offer’ of Stay 4 Nights only pay for 3. Availability can be found on our website www.beaconhotel.co.uk using the promo code STAY4PAY3 or by calling us directly.

With this in mind we would like to wish you a wonderful New Year, with all our very best wishes for a healthy 2022.

If I could give this hotel 100 stars I would. It was fabulous. The staff was all very friendly and accommodating in every way possible. They go out of their way to make sure you’re happy. Everything was clean and tidy and the food was delicious with a variety everyday. Walking distance to the village…
